TOD Chapter 02 part 2
An incident involving a car accident about ten years ago must have caused Mrs. Raffes to endure an extraordinary heartache.
A sorrow that still hasn't completely vanished from her mind.
It is her longing for her loved ones that drives her to shelter abandoned and less fortunate children in her home.
As a diversion from her sadness, it also rekindles her long-buried love for fellow beings in the ocean of grief.
There are ten children she cares for in her home.
They are Kim Marcus, Zac Cullum, Lola Penty, Joanne Kirsty, Toby Brown, Deborah White, Lily Gordon, Sara Harlone, Tom Wildblood, and Isla.
These children each have different stories, which is why they reside in her home.
The first child she took in was Isla.
The name Isla itself comes from a writing on her hand, likely made by the person who left her.
Ten years ago, Mrs. Raffes found Isla crying loudly under a large oak tree near the lake, in the middle of the forest.
At that time, Mrs. Raffles intended to search for Parker, who hadn't returned for two days around the lake.
Since her husband and child died in a car accident, Parker was the only companion in the house back then.
It's a different story for her other two foster children, Sara Harlone and Tom Wildblood.
Sara Harlone was found by Mr. Downing in the courtyard of his house about ten years ago. not long after his wife glimpsed someone lurking in front of their house, leaving something behind, and hastily departing, the sweet Baby was found lying under a cluster of lily flowers in the yard.
Mr. Downing then brought the unfortunate baby to Mrs. Raffles' residence, as he didn't want to deal with the police or the like.
Mrs. Raffles accepted the baby and gave her the name written on the tattered piece of paper accompanying her Sara Harlone.
Sara Harlone grew up to be a cheerful little girl.
The other children always found her peculiar.
They believed Sara possessed a strange ability, a magical power.
Tom Wildblood was his own neighbor's child, from the Wildblood family.
The Wildbloods' house had caught fire about seven years ago, and Tom was the only inhabitant who survived.
The neighbors suggested sending Tom to his grandfather in London, but for some reason, his grandfather himself refused to care for him.
Eventually, Tom was entrusted to Mrs. Raffles.
Initially, Mrs. Raffles hesitated because she was already caring for two babies, Isla and Sara.
But there was no other way, no family willing to take him in.
So, from then on, Mrs. Raffes began to consider turning her home into something akin to an orphanage.
Given how easily people dropped off abandoned babies and children, like depositing a stray dog at an animal shelter.
The family members of Mrs. Raffles grew in number.
Kim Marcus and Zac Cullum were brought to Mrs. Raffles from the city center streets.
She persuaded them to come and live with her, and luckily, they agreed to join Ms. Raffles.
This happened about a few years ago.
Joanne Kirsty was found lying in a corner of a cornfield at the eastern edge of the village.
Eyewitnesses saw that the baby belonged to a tourist visiting the village.
However, no one has come looking for her.
Lily Gordon and Lola Penty have almost identical stories, about three years ago.
Both their parents passed away, and their other relatives were unwilling to take them in due to economic difficulties.
They accidentally met Mr. Horan, who eventually brought them to Mrs. Raffles' home.
Mrs. Raffles once invited her cousin Maria to help care for the babies in her home.
Mrs. Raffles also took in a fourteen-year-old boy in her home.
It was helpful in looking after the babies when she or Maria went outside.
Maria helped care for the babies for six years before she flew to Paris, following her French husband.
Since then, Mrs. Raffles has been taking care of the children on her own.
Fortunately, many donors provided assistance to her for the expenses and needs of herself and her growing foster children.
They began to leave the house and head to school.
The atmosphere inside the house became more harmonious.
Zac Cullum hurriedly left, still seeming upset about the joke during breakfast earlier.
Two children entered the yard, one with wavy black hair and the other with long blonde hair.
The little girl with wavy black hair was behind the little girl with long blonde hair, who was sitting in her wheelchair.
The wavy-haired girl was named Sara Harlone, and the long-blonde-haired girl was named Isla.
They had just returned from a walk around the village, which was indeed very beautiful.
They had watching the sunrise from the hill in the east.
"Hey, where have you been? Mrs. Raffles was looking for you. You haven't had breakfast yet, right?" Kim asked.
"We went around the village, explored, and enjoyed the morning atmosphere. The air is really fresh out there," Sara replied. "Any news? Is everything okay?" she asked, noticing Deborah's swollen eyes.
"Parker caused trouble again, this time in Debbie's room," Joanne answered.
Sara glanced around, and there was Parker, the lazy black village dog, lazily asleep in the corner of the yard.
Flies buzzed around his oily nose. It was no secret that the old dog liked to relieve himself anywhere, and of course, there was no point in scolding him. Sara shrugged and walked inside.
"We're going in," Sara bid farewell as she pushed Isla wheelchair into the house.
"Alright, let Mrs. Raffles know we're leaving," Kim instructed, then walked away with the other children.
Curious about what the children had described, Sara directed Isla wheelchair towards Deborah small room.
She opened the door, swept her gaze around, and found a squishy object emitting a foul smell in the middle of the bed.
Sara looked left and right, glancing at Isla, who responded with a nod.
Sara then flicked her finger.
A greenish light emerged from the tip of her finger and swiftly glided towards the mess on Deborah bed.
In an instant, the bed was clean and tidy again, free from dirt and odor.
"Nice job, Sara!" Isla gave her a thumbs-up. Sara returned the gesture to isla.
Footsteps were heard entering the room.
They turned to see someone appearing behind the door, it was Mrs. Raffles.
She was carrying a bucket, a small shovel, and a small pot usually used for planting flowers in the yard.
Mrs. Raffles intended to clean Deborah room.
She entered the room with a beaming smile towards Isla and Sara, carefully searching the bed for something, but found nothing.
Mrs. Raffles turned towards Sara.
Sara winked playfully at Mrs. Raffles, then exchanged glances with Isla.
Mrs. Raffles shrugged.
She knew Sara had cleaned up Parker mess from Deborah bed with her abilities.
Mrs. Raffles left the room with a relieved look.
"Thank you, dear," she said as she walked out of Deborah room.
