Little Apostle Chapter 05

Sacred Beast Phoenix

After igniting the firewood, Minato took out some rocora fruit from Sarakia bag.

While Minato was engaged in this task, the heat from the bonfire gradually warmed the Phoenix.

"Kyuu..."

"You've awake?"

With the rise in body temperature, the Phoenix chick gradually waking up.

The newly awakened Phoenix chick gazed weakly at the bag held by Minato.

"Are you interested in this bag? This, you see..."

as he placed three rocora fruits into the bonfire, Minato explained about the bag to the red bird.

Sarakia bag, at first glance, it seemed like an ordinary leather backpack, but it was a sacred treasure.

Not only was it incredibly spacious, but no matter how much you put inside, it never became heavy.

Furthermore, its condition remained unchanged, so even if you left river fish or rocora fruits inside, they wouldn't rot.

"it might be a good idea to put river fish in the bag along with the rocora fruits, For times like these, don't you think?"

For Minato and Taro, catching river fish was an enjoyable pastime, so they hadn't considered the notion of preservation.

While explaining, the skin of the rocora fruit began to char.

"Mmm~. I wonder if it's tasty."

Minato used a wooden twig like chopsticks to retrieve the rocora fruit from the bonfire.

"Hot hot! ...Can you eat it?"

Using Sarakia knife, Minato cut the rocora fruit in half.

The skin was burnt, but the inside was still cold.

"Kyuu..."

"It's sour, but it's delicious. And it's good for your body, too."

To reassure the Phoenix, Minato took a bite of the rocora fruit.

"Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! It's sour even when roasted! ...But it's delicious."

"Kyuu~"

Sensing the Phoenix's desire to eat, Minato cut off a small piece with Sarakia knife and brought it to its mouth.

"Kyuu... piiiiii..."

The overwhelming sourness caused the Phoenix to shiver all over.

It then looked at Minato as if to say, "You tricked me?"

"It didn't suit your taste? Hmm. It's delicious though..."

Just as Minato was losing a little of the Phoenix's trust, Taro approached.

"...Bafu."

Taro dropped the three river fish he had in his mouth onto the ground.

"Thanks! Let's roast them right away."

Minato impaled the fallen branches in to the river fish and began to roast them over the bonfire.

The Phoenix watched this process intently.

"Taro, I roasted some rocora fruit, so have some."

"Wafu~"

"It seems like this kid doesn't really like it."

"Wafu?"

While tilting his head as if to ask, "But isn't it delicious?" Taro took a bite of the charred rocora fruit.

A citrusy, sour scent wafted through the air.

"If you ever feel like eating it, just let me know?"

Minato also chewed on the rocora fruit.

"Kyu........"

The Phoenix watched Minato and Taro with eyes full of admiration.

Those who could eat such sour food without a flinch must have undergone some truly challenging training.

The acidity of rocora fruit was not something the average creature could endure.

"Wafu-bafu!"

"Is it cooked already? Wouldn't it be even tastier if we cooked it a bit more?"

"Bafu~"

Taro insisted that it's a bit tastier when it's a little raw.

"Is that so? Maybe you're right?"

Minato picked up a river fish and brought it to the Phoenix's mouth.

"Can you eat it? Should I cut it into smaller pieces?"

"Kyuu."

The Phoenix took a bite around the fish entrails.

"Oh~ You ate it!"

"Wafu-wafu!"

After finishing the entrails, it stared at the fish that was still being cooked.

"Perhaps it wants to eat the belly. Wait a moment... There you go."

Minato brought another fish in front of the Phoenix.

"Kyu kyuu."

   It eagerly devoured the belly.

"Oh~"

"Wafu-wafu!"

"Kyuu."

"Here, have another."

"Kyuu~"

After eating only the belly of three river fish, the Phoenix began to fall asleep.

"Are you full now?"

"Wafu~"

"Shall we eat too?"

"Wafu!"

While petting the sleeping Phoenix, Minato and Taro finished the leftovers.

"The head is delicious too, you know."

"Wafu~"

As they ate, Minato once again read Sarakia Tome.

"Hmm? It says this kid is the Sacred Beast Phoenix."

"Wafu!?"

"...Sacred Beasts, I remember they possess the power to suppress curses and miasma."

   Minato recalled Sarakia words.

"The current world is in such a dire state that even Sacred Beasts are cursed!"

"Wafu~"

Taro's admiration for Minato knowledge deepened even further.

From then on, Minato and Taro took care of the Phoenix. Although "care" mostly involved feeding it river fish and sharing a sleeping place.

By the next day, the Phoenix had recovered considerably.

It perched on Minato's shoulder or Taro back, accompanying them in fishing trips and observing the creation of statues.

The Phoenix grew attached, to the point where two days later, it would nuzzle against Minato whenever it had the chance.

On the morning of the third day, when Minato and Taro woke up,

"Piiii~"

"Waah!"

"Wafu~"

The Phoenix flew energetically and gracefully inside the cave.
